Tugboat "AXEL" at LINDENAU for complex repair works


Tugboat AxelIn April 2010 the tugboat “AXEL” was once again a guest at the LINDENAU shipyard. Under the repair number R3788 the tugboat spent 1 ½ weeks at the yard.

During this period various cleaning and conservation works were carried out. In addition, various plates were burnt out and new plates were fitted and welded. For this to be done, the fitments, panels and insulation around the affected areas were removed and after the work was completed, re-installed. The affected areas were then conserved and repainted An ultrasonic thickness measurement was carried out.

The diaphragm was additionally reinforced to limit new damage in advance. Furthermore various oil contaminated repair works were carried out on the Schottel drive, the clutch and the main engine. These works were carried out strictly complying with environmental regulations and in close cooperation with Germanischer Lloyd.

Tugboat AxelA new towing chock was built in to the front part of the boat and new brake pads were fitted to the band brake of the windlass. The freshwater tank was emptied, repaired, cleansed and chlorinated. After sampling the freshwater, the tank could be filled and taken back in to operation.

The damaged propeller was sanded down and after being removed was inspected for cracks. The propeller was then presented to Germanischen Lloyd for approval.

The LINDENAU repair team performed the work to the full satisfaction of the Lübeck customer. LINDENAU had guaranteed the completion date in advance so that the tugboat could quickly commence its journey.
